The Crossroads
Club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation providing services
for anyone whose life has been adversely affected by, or through,
the use of addictive substances, our focus being on the health and
education of these individuals.
We provide a
physically safe, properly maintained meeting facility for people
recovering from these addictions to meet, and we continue to develop
and implement programs and seminars that support and enhance this
recovery process.
In order for
an individual to maintain their health, they must be constantly
aware of the necessity for living a totally drug-free existence.
Therefore, in addition to providing over 70 meetings of 12-step
groups per week, our Living Skills Program
provides individuals with the education necessary to live a drug
and alcohol free existence and to become productive citizens in
the Community. Because the substance-abuse problem continues to
such a large degree within our society in general, the demand for
the services provide by The Crossroads Club is constantly growing.
In an effort
to address the addiction problem from a preventative standpoint,
we are expanding the Living Skills Program through our Living Skills
In-The-Schools Program, which entails young individuals ("presenters")
who have successfully abstained from the use of alcohol and/or drugs
for a minimum of two (2) years visiting the elementary and middle
schools and speaking to the students about their experiences and
how the students can avoid similar pitfalls. The hope is the students
will relate to these young recovering individuals and learn from
their unfortunate past experiences thereby encouraging abstinence
from drugs and alcohol.
We have given
this presentation to several private and public schools, and have
received final approval from the school district of Palm Beach County
Prevention Center with regard to implementation of the Program.
Our goal is to reach all of Palm Beach County's pre-teen and early
teenage school children. We believe by targeting this particular
age group, we can reach many of them prior to their first exposure
to drugs and alcohol. The Program will be implemented in the various
schools and the length of the Program will be as specified by each
individual school as the schools operate autonomously. It will be
evaluated by teachers and counselors of the participating students,
as well as by the Prevention Center of The Palm Beach County School
District.
To-date, these
presentations have been done solely utilizing volunteers; however,
in order to meet our goals, funding is critical. All funds received
would be utilized for administration costs, training of presenters
and nominal fees to presenters who share their experiences with
the students (for their time and expenses).
